CT Scan
Computed Tomography or CT scanners send x-rays the body which are then measured by detectors in the CT scanner. A computer algorithm then processes those measurements to produce pictures of the body’s internal structures.
Preparation for the study:
- Wear comfortable clothing free of zippers, metallic buttons and snaps as well as jewelry that could interfere with your scan.
- Please notify your doctor if you have any allergy to iodine or intravenous contrast. If so, you need to be pre-medicated 24 hours prior to your exam and will need a driver.
- Diabetic patients taking GLOCOVANCE, GLUCOPHAGE or METFORMIN will need to stop taking these medications the day of your exam and up to a minimum of 48 hours after the exam. Please notify your doctor for replacement medicines.
- Female patients must notify their physician if they are, or think they might be pregnant, for further instructions.
- A blood test, Creatinine, is required with 6 weeks of CT examinations ordered with IV contrast, unless waived by the requesting physician AND clearly documented on the prescription.
- Avoid food or drink 4 hours before the scheduled exam.
